BIOGRAPHY – Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift was born December 13th 1989 and raised in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. She is a Country Pop singer/songwriter, Musician, and Actress.

At the age of 10 Swift was shown how to play three chords by a computer repair man; which inspired her to learn guitar. At the age of 11 she wrote her first song “Lucky You” and took her first trip to Nashville – the home of Country music. Shortly after Swift began song writing regularly and used it as a way to express herself. Swift began performing in her hometown at festivals, fairs, and karaoke contests. Her first major show was at the Bloomsburg Fair, which was well received. By the time Swift was 12 she was regularly visiting Nashville and started playing 12 string guitars.

At the age of 14 she moved to an outlying Nashville suburb. Swift also became the youngest Staff Songwriter ever hired for the Sony/ATV Tree publishing house.

Swift was offered an Artist Development Deal by RCA records at the age of 15, but she rejected it.

Swift caught the attention of Scott Brochetta after performing at “The Bluebird Café” in Nashville. Brochetta signed Swift to his newly formed label “Big Machine Records”.

Swift released her self-titled debut album in 2006, selling 39,000 copies in the first week. It peaked at #1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums and #5 on the Billboard 200. In 2008 Swift released her second album “Fearless” which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and had the largest opening sales of any female artist. In 2010 she released her third album “Speak Now”.

Swift’s lyrics are often about her personal experiences. She has said, “If you listen to my albums, it’s like reading my diary”. She also writes song’s that people can relate to. Saying, “My goal is to never write songs that my fans can’t relate to”. The highly personal nature of her songs gained her attention within the music industry.

Swift uses “Taylor guitars”. At a young age she bought a Taylor 615CE. Swift’s main performance guitars include: all-koa PSGA, a Swarovski crystal-encrusted GS6, a maple PS-LTD, pink T5-S (with flake-top finish), a pair of K65ce’s, a custom maple Dreadnought, a PSGA, and a black SolidBody Classic.
