Misfits Classic Lineup Could Reunite
The Examiner recently caught up with former Misfits guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein to talk about his new album ‘Abominator’ as well as the prospect of a Misfits reunion with Glen Danzig on vocals. A couple of excerpts from the chat can be found below.
A typically blunt Wolfgang von Frankenstein joked that, “gettin’ laid” was his main inspiration for writing ‘Abominator,’ which was released in August this year to critical acclaim.
He more seriously added: “I had been writing some heavy riffs and throwing some ideas around, so it felt like the right time to put something together.”
Wolfgang von Frankenstein recruited bassist ‘Left Hand’ Graham Reaper, former Misfits drummer Dr. CHUD and Cancerslug vocalist Alex Story for the album. He recalled how he assembled the band: “I was placing ads in newspapers and magazines for $2200 a month around New York City and the majority of stuff I was getting was garbage.”
However, he said that Story in particular, nailed his audition: “Alex answered an ad and, after I listening to the songs he wrote, I was like ‘Wow, this is the guy.’ I called him and we immediately began working together.”
He added: “He’s just great to work with, he’s the real deal. He can sing, he can scream, and I believe everything he’s saying. He’s also an incredible writer, so he’s just a beast all around.”
Wolfgang von Frankenstein is currently on the road with Danzig to help the original Misfits vocalist celebrate his twenty-fifth anniversary as a solo artist. The duo’s next performance is set to place at The Rapids Theatre on Oct. 17.
Wolfgang von Frankenstein said that so far, the tour has been great: “We’re having a good time. It’s been really fun, because we still have the same connection and we’re playing the songs the same way we did at the beginning.”
Moreover, Wolfgang von Frankenstein said he was working hard at making a Misfits reunion happen: “As far as a full-on Misfits reunion goes, I’m in, so it’s something we’re going to have work on getting accomplished.”
