Paolo Gregoletto: My Top Tracks from 2014

We asked Trivium‘s Paolo Gregoletto to count down his favourite tracks from 2014. In no particular order, this is the list he came up with.

King 810 – “Fat Around the Heart”

When our manager first told us about King 810, I wasn’t sure what to make of them. After hearing the album and revisiting this song (as well as seeing them live all summer long on Mayhem), it quickly became a favorite.

Slipknot – “Custer”

This song is Slipknot boiled down to it’s most primal and punishing form. I seriously want to ram my truck into other vehicles when it comes on.

Judas Priest – “Halls of Valhalla”

Judas Priest are shoe-ins to the Hall of Fame some day (they should already be in) and they seem to have turned what could have been just another album into a modern day classic. This song is epic. Seeing them play it live made it one of my all time favorites for sure!

Mastodon – “The Motherload”

I have loved these dudes ever since I heard Remission. They truly get better and better, and they seemed to have hone in on the melodic side and made a killllller song with this one!

Foo Fighters – “Something for Nothing”

If you haven’t seen the Sonic Highways series on HBO, get on it! I loved this song when I heard it on the radio and loved it even more after watching the episode it was featured on.

Slash – “World on Fire”

Again, another example of a guy that IS in the Hall of Fame and making amazing music this far into his career. Slash is literally on fire (cool pun!) with this one. Sweet!

Cannibal Corpse – “Kill or Become”

Every few years, Cannibal Corpse release an album, and yes this song confirms they still are the KINGS of death metal.

Bring Me The Horizon – “Drown”

Divisive and controversial before even striking a note; I really have become a big fan of this band. This single was a departure from the GREAT album they released last year. That’s a ballsy move to make when you have something work so well before hand. Keep up dudes!

Winery Dogs – “Elevate”

You had me at Billy Sheehan. This debut from the power trio of Richie Kotzen, Billy Sheehan, and Mike Portnoy is a master class in mixing virtuosity with great song writing. Kotzen was the least known of the three before I heard this record, and he really shines front and center on it. This track is the opener and a great entry into a bad ass record!
