Featured below is the track ‘Madness Opus’ by this week’s AMPED Artist of the week, Boston based death metal act, Revocation. The track is based on the short story, ‘The Music Of Erich Zann’ by H.P. Lovecraft.
‘Madness Opus’ is taken from Reocation’s acclaimed new album, ‘Deathless,’ which was released on October 14 this year and is already widely considered to be the band’s strongest and most prolific work to date. Featuring 10 brand new tracks, the band’s Metal Blade Records debut has proved an instant favourite among fans, earning them their highest ever chat ranking by more than 30 spots to land at #124 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart. Additionally, the album debuted at #10 on the Billboard Hard Music Albums Chart, #114 on the Billboard Top Current Albums Chart and #1 on the Billboard New Artist Chart. It is the band’s second straight debut on the top 200 chart.
All Axess recently caught up with the band’s frontman David Davidson and asked him about ‘Madness Opus’ and how it is being received live:
What made you decide to base the track ‘Madness Opus’ on H.P. Lovecraft’s short story ‘The Music Of Erich Zann’?
It’s a lesser known Lovecraft story but it was really intriguing to me so I felt compelled to pay homage to it. The story is about a musician who must perform for a cosmic entity every night and lull it to sleep otherwise it will consume the entire world, if that’s not good fodder for a death metal song I don’t know what is.
By now, several fans have had a chance to hear the track live, how has the response been so far?
The response has been overwhelming for that song. Our fans have really been losing their minds over it and recently people have been shouting out the title before I introduce the song so I that’s always a good sign.
Revocation is currently making their way around Europe with label mates Cannibal Corpse as part of their hefty tour in support of ‘Deathless.’ The band will then make it’s way through China before heading to Australia for a string of shows with Thy Art Is Murder.
