Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora has hit back at Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong following his recent remarks that Bon Jovi was the worst band he had ever played with.
Speaking with Rolling Stone, Sambora said that he didn’t even recall having ever played with Greenday: “I have no idea what happened with that, I actually don’t recall them opening for us,” Sambora cackled.
He added: “Either I was incapacitated at that point or I just don’t remember it. I’m sorry he had such a bad time.”
While it seems almost certain Bon Jovi and Greenday won’t be hitting the road together anytime soon, Sambora is hoping to give up and coming bands a help in hand by taking them out on tour with Bon Jovi: “Promoting new music is something that I like to do,” he explained. “Silversun Pickups, My Morning Jacket is a great band. I listen to a lot of bands that are more indie these days and really digging it.”
Sambora said that the tour will begin once the new Bon Jovi record is completed: “Somewhere around March or that vicinity, the new Bon Jovi record will come out and then we’ll be on the road with that,” he said.
In the meantime, Sambora is preparing for his whirlwind European solo tour: “I haven’t toured myself in like twelve years so I’m really looking forward to that,” he said.
