Dweezil Zappa concertgoers were given a special treat recently, when guitar extraordinaire Guthrie Govan graced the stage and amazed the Manchester audience with his incredible guitar playing ability. You can check out the performance below.
The following description of Govan’s performance was posted on the official Dweezil Zappa website. “Last night in Manchester (22/11/11) my friend Guthrie Govan joined us on stage. He played through my spare Fractal Axe effects II.”
Zappa challenged Govan to run through every genre of music they could come up with, right there on the spot. Of course it’s pretty hard to stump a master of any craft, and in Govan’s case, there was no exception.
Dweezil Zappa, who is the son of the legendary musician Frank Zappa, commented on what it was like to perform alongside the renowned shredding genius that is Govan. “He’s a very fine guitarist with superhuman precision. I enjoyed having him onstage. I kept suggesting different musical styles for him to play over and he nailed all of them. Country, Lounge Jazz, super wristy funk and a Classical Etude. Then he let loose on a crazy yet musical solo before we played a few notes together.”
