I hope that everyone had a great Halloween filled with fun, candy and whatever else makes you happy. For me, it is definitely one of the best times of year. Even though people consider it a “holiday”, it really isn’t. If anything, it is more synonymous with the end of summer and the beginning of the holiday season. I, for one, have always tried to perpetuate the vibe of Halloween by not accepting that it truly ends at 11:59 pm on the 31st of October. No, I don’t leave my costume on for the next few days, but I always feel I honor the special day of ghouls and ghosts by being such an avid horror fan – while watching horror/film noire flicks all year round. Being a musician that plays metal music, I have taken influence from some of my absolute favorite films and not only used it in my own compositions, but still compare the classics to what comes out today. Not to sound like an elitist, but the films of today just don’t live up, music wise.
John Carpenter is the true master of horror. His films have left indelible marks on our psyche and he is considered one of the most iconic horror film makers in history. Mr. Carpenter has the ability to not only write, direct and conceptualize his films, but he can also compose some of the most memorable scores and musical pieces that bring his masterpieces to life. Where noted, John has involved other notable musicians and sound designers to aid in the creation of his pieces.
Today, I thought I would list my top 5 favorite scores in John Carpenter films. I am sure that many of you will share the same feelings that these scores elicit in myself. I hope you enjoy the list – hit the button below to get started!
