Jeff Kendrick’s Top Five Metal Christmas Tunes

Ah, the sounds and smells of Christmas. Many people have different perspectives, thoughts, and possible apprehensions about this holiday. Religious connotations or not, this is the time of year to enjoy family, friends, food, and some tasty beverages.

I am a huge Christmas music fan – always have been, always will be – and although I have many tastes and likes, I find that some of my most favorite Christmas songs are the result of my parents exposing me to piano and classical music at an early age. Things like Tchiakovsky’s Nutcracker Suite still resonate with me and is synonymous with the holidays in the Kendrick household. But, for the sake of my current background, let’s discuss the best hard rock and heavy metal Christmas songs. In between classical passages, movements and orchestration, there is always the urge to let your hair down, crack a brew and scare the absolute shit out of Santa Claus.

I have comprised my top 5 Christmas tunes that are sure to have you gulp an extra glass of spiked egg nog or possibly some of that spiked onion dip. Have a safe and happy holiday season, everyone!

1.) King Diamond ‘No Presents for Christmas’

The King’s reign on holidays should just not be relegated to Halloween. Suddenly, the thought of no presents doesn’t seem that bad!

2.) Spinal Tap ‘Christmas With the Devil’

Christopher Guest and Co. showcase their incredible ability to parody musicians and real life but surprisingly enough, their tune isn’t that far away from some of the real life metal bands.

3.) Manowar ‘Silent Night’

An incredible interpretation of one of the greatest classical pieces of all time, Manowar pay tribute while finishing up with volume and ferociousness that show why they earned their spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for “Loudest Band.”

4.) Korn ‘Kidnap the Sandy Claws’

An excellent cover of Lock Shock and Barrel’s track from Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas. The Bakersfield metal giants deliver a down-tuned, dirty rendition.

5.) Gwar ‘Stripper Christmas Summer Weekend’

What is more rock and roll than strippers? Well, Gwar have always done their own thing and the thought of Santa Claus getting a lap dance is definitely pretty metal! Especially in the summer time!
