Nita Strauss Guitar Lesson – Improvisation

Nita Strauss Gives us All A Guitar Lesson

A lesson in improvisation in the key of ‘A’ major. The breakdown of the lick allows different approaches and voicing of playing the first 8 notes of the ‘A’ major scale; one is two notes per string and one is three. Nita showcases an interpretation of the scale from a traditional perspective to a more “shred” approach. This is very important part of learning the guitar and learning the usage of key signatures in music. Once a player has learned the key of a particular song, a proverbial map is created that allows them to not only know what they are doing and how to navigate but also gives the player a choice of which notes they want to use. Just by changing picking patterns or adding different phrases or legato-the notes of the scale start to become alive and give the player more of a choice versus running the scale up and down.
