8 Foot Sativa Gets ‘Amped By All Axess’

This week’s ‘Amped Artist’ is New Zealand metal band 8 Foot Sativa. The track, ‘Destined To Be Dead’ from the band’s second album, ‘Season For Assault’ can be viewed below.

Since forming in 1998 in Auckland, NZ, 8 Foot Sativa have grown to become the most successful metal band the country has ever produced. The band’s five studio albums have heralded them national and international tours, break- through chart positions and exposure in the mainstream media.

8 Foot Sativa has shared the stage with many of metal’s most revered bands, including Metallica, Pantera, Soulfly, Korn, Slipknot, System of a Down, Children of Bodom, Disturbed, Amon Amarth, Motorhead and Corrosion of Conformity.

The band first began to make serious headway in 2002, with their debut album ‘Hate Made Me,’ which achieved Gold status in New Zealand and affirmed the band’s position as New Zealand’s most promising metal band.

2003’s ‘Season For Assault’ further increased 8 Foot Sativa’s popularity: garnering five star reviews and entering the album charts at number 6. It was also the first album by a New Zealand metal band to reach number 1 on the independent charts.

In 2005, 8 Foot Sativa released their third album, ‘Breed The Pain’ with new vocalist Matt Sheppard. The album was recorded in Sweden with Studio Underground’s Pelle Saether (Carnal Forge, Fleshcrawl), who also produced the album’s follow-up, ‘Poison of Ages.’

In 2010, 8 Foot Sativa went on a hiatus that would last two years, before returning in 2012 with original vocalist Justin”Jackhammer” Niessen. The band released a new single, titled ‘Sleepwalkers,’ as well as a best of album, ‘Ten Years Of Sativa’ before setting about writing their long awaited fifth album.

‘The Shadow Masters’ was released in August 2013, once again to acclaimed success. The album features 10 new songs, including the first single ‘Shadow Masters.’
