Alexi Laiho On New Children Of Bodom Album

Full Metal Jackie recently spoke with Children Of Bodom guitarist/vocalist Alexi Laiho about the band’s long awaited album ‘Halo Of Blood’ and how he has grown as a musician since their last album, 2011’s ‘Relentless Reckless Forever.’ A couple of excerpts from the chat can be found below.
Laiho said that after slaving over the album for the past two years, he was highly anticipative for its release: “… we’ve been working on it forever. Well, it feels like forever, so I just want to get the damn thing out there as soon as possible.”
Musically, he confirmed that ‘Halo Of Blood’ was a return to Children Of Bodom’s classic sound: “…it’s really hard to say, but what I’ve heard from a lot of people is that that there’s more old-school Bodom elements in the music than there were on the previous one or on ‘Blooddrunk’ for example.”
Laiho was also questioned on his songwriting ability and whether he thought he had improved: “It’s kind of hard to say how I have grown as a musician or songwriter. As a person, not so much,” he joked. “Honestly, I like the solos better on this record that I did.”
He then explained how he approached writing a solo: “When I play a solo, I want it to be something that complements the music and serves the music as opposed to showing off. Showing off is very important too, but it can’t be all about that. [laughs]”
