Bush Frontman On New, “Fantastic Guitarist” Chris Traynor

Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale says he couldn’t be happier with the bands new guitarist Chris Traynor.

In a recent interview with Alternative Addiction, Rossdale said, “What’s most inspiring about Chris is that he’s a perfectionist who’s never satisfied. He really works at his craft. He’s not just a brilliant guitar player just because of his natural ability. He really works at it. That’s such a relief because it means that I can lean on him. He’s a very solid grid around me, and it allows me to be my usual spirited self.”

Bush’s latest album, ‘The Sound of Winter,’ is their first after nearly a decade on the sidelines, and features a new look lineup, with drummer Corey Britz joining Traynor as the latest additions to the band.

In the same interview Rossdale said that Traynor, who was brought in to replace the bands original guitarist and co-founding member Nigel Pulsford, has added a whole new dimension to Bush’s sound. “I’m really lucky because Nigel was a fantastic foil and so is Chris, and yet they’re very different guitar players. I think what that brings is a real diverse sound across the whole catalogue… It’s fun for me because some of the great lines Nigel had we still use because they’re central to the songs. Then some of the lines Chris put on, many great lines, they hold true.”

Traynor has been a long-time friend of Rossdale’s, and worked with him during his short-lived solo career. “He’s just a fantastic guitar player…He did some incredible work on this new album. Our shorthand over the years has gotten better and better. He just understands me and he doesn’t say too much. We just sit there and he plays his stuff, and he’s just such a great foil for me.”

Bush is currently touring the U.S.A. with Chevelle and Filter. You can check out the dates below.
