Southern California heavy death-core outfit “Carnifex” is this week’s ‘Amped‘ band of the week on All Axess. The band is fresh off a tour with DevilDriver and Whitechapel in support for their 6th opus “Die Without Hope” released in March on veteran metal label Nuclear Blast. An abbreviated bio of Carnifex as well as their new video for the title track can be found below.
Carnifex was formed in the San Diego adjacent town of Fallbrook, CA. in late 2005. The name is coined from the Latin word äúexecutioner; which means, “executioner“. Since the inception of the band, Carnifex have released 6 full albums and one EP (released on Acropolis records and via iTunes) and through various lineup changes and two record labels (Victory and Nuclear Blast) have persevered to be one of the strongest bands in the respective Death-Core Heavy Metal sub-genre.
The band recorded a demo called “Carnifex” as their first offering to the metal world in 2005 followed by: ‘Love Lies In Ashes'(2006); ‘Dead In My Arms'(2007); ‘The Diseased and Poisoned'(2008); ‘Hell Chose Me’ (2009); ‘Until I Feel Nothing’ (2011); ‘Die Without Hope (2014).
Carnifex has emerged as one of the leaders in the Death Core scene partially from touring with well-known acts such as Unearth, As I Lay Dying and All That Remains. The band took a brief hiatus for the 2012 year with the band’s future uncertain during this time. The band returned in 2013 to write and record the current album, armed with a new record deal with Nuclear Blast and a tour schedule that saw them circumventing the globe. Fans of the heavy music genre constantly are trying to create labels and identity’s for bands, some flattering and some not so flattering. Many fans of Carnifex have labeled the band as a “Death Core” outfit and the members of the California quintet are more than happy to categorize their music as so. The band has always prided itself on writing and recording music that the members truly believe in.
The band will head over to European shores to play on select dates of the Sonisphere festivals as well as an appearance at the biggest underground Metal and Hardcore festival in Germany, With Full Force and several headlining shows in Russia. After taking the rest of the summer off, the band will finish off the year with shows in Mexico and a return to Europe to tour under Aussie groove Titans ‘Parkway Drive’ in November.
