Firewind and Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Gus G., recently spoke with cravemeteal.com about winning the Dimebag Darrell ‘Shredder’ award, at this years Metal Hammer Golden Gods awards.
“It’s a big honor, I mean I’ve never gotten award for my guitar skills or anything. Well I actually got an award for one of the DVD’S I did, for an instructional thing, but not like as a guitar player… So it feels very special, especially coming from a legendary magazine like Metal Hammer. I grew up reading Metal Hammer and still read Metal Hammer every month…” The humble guitarist added, “Thanks to everybody for voting and supporting me.”
In the interview, which took place at the recent U.K. Sonisphere festival, Gus G. also commented on what lies ahead, for Firewind. “We have a lot of material, we have a lot riffs, and some demos here and there but at the moment we are just focusing on promoting ‘Days of Defiance’ and touring that record. We gonna go out and do a world tour in September…”
Gus G. says that Firewind intend on releasing the follow up to ‘Days of Defiance,’ in 2012; “ I think sometime early in 2012 we are going to start looking into getting all our stuff together and working pre-productions and stuff. I’m not sure when that new album would come out, I would hope within 2012 sometime.”
Firewind’s first-ever U.S. headlining tour, “Frets of Fury,” with support acts Arsis, White Wizzard and Nightrage, kicks off October 9.
