Mors Principium Est Gets ‘Amped’ By All Axess

This weeks ‘Amped Artist’ is Finnish melodic death metal band Mors Principium Est. The teaser track for their upcoming album ‘…and Death said live’ can be found below.

Forming in Pori, Finland in 1999, Mors Principium Est spent its early years establishing a solid lineup and working on material. In 2002, after releasing a string of demos and performing a vast array of gigs, MPE’s hard work and vigor began to pay off when Listenable Records offered the band a three album contract.

Shortly after signing the record deal, Mors Principium Est set about writing their debut album ‘Inhumanity,’ which was recorded and mixed by Ahti Kortelainen in Finland at Tico-Tico Studios, in December 2002 and mastered at Finnvox Studios, in January 2003. The album was released in spring 2003 and received raving reviews from all around the world.

The following album, titled ‘The Unborn’ was released in 2005 and established MPE as a force to be reckoned with. Once again, the album was well received by fans and critics alike, and helped the band to land its first show outside of Finland at the BW&BK SixPack Metal Festival in Cleveland, USA.

In the two years following, Mors Principium Est continued to make a name for themselves through touring and the release of their third album ‘Liberation=Termination.’ However, in 2007, shortly after the release of ‘Liberation=Termination’ MPE was struck a severe blow when both of its guitarists parted ways with the band.

Despite not having a full lineup, the band’s core members: vocalist Ville Viljanen, drummer Mikko Sipola and bassist Teemu Heinola continued to perform live for the next four years, hiring various guitarists to fill the void.

By 2011, it was decided that if Mors Principium Est was to continue as a band, they would need to expand their search for two permanent guitarists worldwide. After trying out around two hundred players, Andy Gillion from the U.K. and Andhe Chandler from New Zealand were brought in as full-time members.

With a full lineup in place, the band started to write new songs and at the start of 2012, began shopping for a new record deal. Before long, MPE signed a worldwide deal (excl. Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Australia) with AFM Records. For Japan, Korea and Taiwan the band signed with Marquee Records/Avalon Label and for Australia the band signed with Truth Inc Records.

Now, Mors Principium Est is preparing to release their fourth and most anticipated album yet. Titled ‘…and Death said live,’ the album is due to hit stores in December this year and features guest appearances from guitarists Ryan Knight (The Black Dahlia Murder) and Jona Weinhofen (Bring Me the Horizon/I Killed the Prom Queen).
