According to Loudwire, Stone Sour have commenced recording of a covers album. Over their past few tours, the band played renditions of Metallica, Kiss, Peter Gabriel and Judas Priest. There has not been an official track list revealed as of yet but knowing the diverse musical influences these guys possess, we can assume it will be quite eclectic.
The Iowa-based quintet will make their first official recording without guitarist Jim Root – who was fired from the band last November. Root and Taylor are both also members of the multi-platinum band Slipknot -whom of course are also from Des Moines, Iowa. Despite Root’s unceremonious departure from Stone Sour this year, he and Corey have completed the long awaited new Slipknot album “.5: The Gray Chapter” which will be released on October 21st.
When Taylor sat down with Loudwire he had this to say about the current situation with Jim and how that affected the sessions for the new Slipknot album: “It was difficult, at first. It put a strain between he and I for a little bit. It was one of those things where the timing just sucked. But at the same time, we knew that, on both sides, we’ve gotta do what we’ve gotta do.”
Stone Sour have posted photos of themselves recording the new covers album, over on their Facebook page.
