This weeks ‘Amped artist of the week’ is English metal band Sylosis. The video to their song ‘Empyreal’ can be seen below.
Since unleashing their debut album ‘Conclusion Of An Age’ in 2008, Sylosis have grown to become one of the UK’s most notable up and comers. Already, they have toured with the likes of Dragonforce, As I Lay Dying, Fear Factory and The Black Dahlia Murder, as well as proven their live playing ability to thousands of onlookers at the Download, Sonisphere and Graspop festivals.
With the release of their second album ‘Edge Of The Earth’ Sylosis have shown that they have what it takes to become one of the biggest metal bands in the world. Guitarist Josh Middleton stepped up to take on the role of frontman and together with the rest of the band filled ‘Edge Of The Earth’ with devastating riffs, thrilling melodies, soulful solos, progressive twists and turns and a ubiquitous dark atmosphere, making it their best work to date.
Middleton says the band wanted to break the mould on the album, “We didn’t want this album to be quite as polished as the last. We put emphasis on playing with more aggression or feel instead of going for perfection. We’ve all grown tired of hearing metal albums that sound like they’re played by computers. The best way to make something sound heavy is to let the human – and sometimes ugly – elements shine through. ”
While thrash will always be at the core of Sylosis’s sound, Middleton states that the band draws inspiration from a variety of styles of music. “We’ve been inspired by more progressive artists on this album, from bands such as Rush and Pink Floyd through to Neurosis and Cult Of Luna. Obviously old school thrash is still the foundation of our sound, and it’s our heaviest music to date but we also want to go deeper than most metal bands. ”
