Ohio Sky Get AMPED By All Axess

This week’s AMPED Artist Of The Week is Cleveland based rock band, Ohio Sky. The track, ‘Slow Down Stay Alive’ from the band’s new album, ‘The Big Distraction’ can be found below.

After winning the ‘Best Rock Band’ award in the 2013 Cleveland Scene Music Awards and being compared to some of modern day rock’s biggest icons, including Mars Volta, Coheed and Cambria, The Deftones, and A Perfect Circle, Ohio Sky seem destined for big things and are well aware of what it takes to achieve them. “We hope to get on the road. That is something we’ve really been hungry for a long time now,” Ohio Sky bassist Mike Bashur told us in a recent interview.

He added: “I think this is the best we’ve been so I’m glad we have some traveling in our future. Cellar Door has been great about reaching out and turning people on to us, and we’ve been getting a lot of plays online, so I think people all over are starting to get turned on to what we’re doing. We’ll be working on some new videos in the coming months as well.”

Ohio Sky’s new album, ‘The Big Distraction’ was released on January 24 via Cellar Door Records to rave reviews thanks to its unique sound, something which Bashur explained has evolved naturally thanks to each band members vast and varying taste in music. “This band has been really great to make music with because between the four of us, our tastes and influences are really endless. We all come from different backgrounds, and we all like a wide variety of music, so mixing all that up and making it our own has been really fantastic.”

Stay tuned for the full interview with Bashur later in the week. In the meantime check out ‘Slow Down Stay Alive’ below.

Official Ohio Sky Bio:

Cleveland band Ohio Sky released their new album The Big Distraction on January 24th through Cellar Door Records at the House of Blues Cambridge Room. Opening for Ohio Sky was Cleveland’s own Nights and Columbus band EYE.

The album, produced by the band, was engineered by Paul Hamann and Dan Millice at Suma Recording Studios in Painesville. It was mixed by Ben Schigel at Spider Studios and mastered by Dan Millice at Engine Room Audio. The album, which will be released on vinyl by Cellar Door Records (CD and digital also available), is being pressed locally at Gotta Groove Records in Cleveland.

With its soaring melodies, bombastic rhythms, and spacey atmosphere, The Big Distraction finds Ohio Sky turning the corner to a new chapter in the life of the band with a more realized sound than ever before.

Ohio Sky, voted “Best Rock Band” in the 2013 Cleveland Scene Music Awards, has been making waves in the local community with their larger than life sound for the last five years. The band has released a full length album, a pair of eps, and a split- the most recent being This House Is Old And Full Of Ghosts, an ep which the band self-released in 2013.

Ohio Sky has shared the stage with Torche, Airborne Toxic Event, Cloud Nothings, Taking Back Sunday, Mr. Gnome, Seether and more.  Most recently, the band has performed at Roar Along the Shore, provided direct support for Jessica Lea Mayfield and Cloud Nothings at the NEO Cycle Festival, and headlined night one of Cellar Door Rendezvous.
