This week’s ‘Amped Artist’ is rock/metal band Scorpion Child from Austin, Texas. Check out the band discussing their main influences exclusively for All Axess in the video below.
Nuclear Blast Entertainment will release Scorpion Child’s self-titled debut album on June 24 in Europe and June 25 in the US. The album was produced and arranged by Chris ‘Frenchie’ Smith (The Answer, Jet, And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, The Toadies, Dax Riggs) and recorded using analog technology.
A description of the album found on the official Scorpion Child Facebook page explained why the band chose to make the album using analog recoding methods: “The goal? To breathe new life into a neglected yet still important musical heritage.”
In the All Axess video, Scorpion Child lead guitarist Christopher Jay Cowart said that while the whole band grew up listening to classic rock, their range of influences was quite diverse: “…the thing is, we all grew up listening to all genres of music,” he began. “We went through punk rock, you know Fugazi and Black Flag? We all listened to the Seattle sounds, like Soundgarden and Alice In Chains and even The Black Crowes… the spectrum’s wide…”
Cowart explained that the group harnessed all their influences from different genres and brought them together to create Scorpion Child’s sound: “We like to absorb as much music, especially rock music, as we can… I think that’s the beauty of it, we’re not pigeon holed to one genre…we’re not necessarily a metal band, we’re not necessarily a indie rock band, we’re not a throwback band, but we are a combination of all those things and I think that’s the magic of it.”
