BIOGRAPHY – Steve Holt

Steve Holt is the founder, rhythm guitarist and sometimes producer of Alaskan metal band 36 Crazyfists. The band originated from Kenai Alaska and was formed by old school friend’s guitarist Steve Holt and singer Brock Lindow. The name comes from Steve Holt’s love of Kung Fu films and refers to a Jackie Chan movie, “Jackie Chan and the 36 Crazyfists”.

The band was later joined by Anchorage musicians Ryan Brownell on guitar, Thomas Noonan on drums and JD Stuart on bass.

After building a local following, 36 Crazy fists released their first EP “Boss Buckle” in 1995 on cassette. However in 1996 bassist JD Stuart died tragically in a car accident and Ryan Brownell retired shortly after from the band. Steve Holt and Brock Lindlow recruited Anchorage based bass player Mick Whitney to replace Stuart. The band continued with four members.

36 Crazyfists relocated to Portland Oregon and their breakthrough came when they were signed by Roadrunner records in 2000, releasing their first major album “Bitterness the Star” in 2002.

36 Crazy Fists toured with other rising new metal stars such as Chimaira and Diecast. When this tour finished they started another gruelling set of dates called the European Road Rage Tour. In 2004, the band released their second album “A Snow Capped Romance” and promoted the album with another intensive tour with former tour mates Killswitch Engage who they had toured with in Europe.

Their third Album “Rest inside the Flames” was released in 2006. Roadrunner decided not to release it in the US but was a success in the UK reaching number 2 in the BBC Rock album charts. This was followed up in 2007 when the band played an extensive 26 venue tour in the UK. In 2008, the band released their fourth album “The Tide and its Takers” Steve Holt produced the album.

A live DVD “Underneath a Northern Sky” was released in October 2009 and in July 2010 the band released their fifth Album “Collisions and Castaways” featuring guest appearances from Adam Jackson, Raithon Clay and Brandon Davis. Guitarist Steve Holt also produced this Album.
