Tom Morello On New RATM Album: “I Would Be Open To That”

Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello has explained why the band has decided not to record a new album to celebrate their 20th anniversary.

While bassist Tim Commerford and vocalist Zack De La Rocha recently hinted that the band would be returning to the studio for the first time in more than a decade, Morello told Billboard.com that the band had, “no plans” to do so earlier this month.

Moreover, in a recent interview with NME, Morello divulged why the band would not work on a new studio album: “When bands make albums, it’s because everybody wants to, and that’s not the case with Rage Against the Machine at the moment,” he said. “Everyone in the band gets along very well, we consider each other friends and comrades in arms, but people sometimes don’t feel ready to do it”

Morello added that despite his busy lifestyle, he would be onboard for a new album: “I don’t have one minute of one day that’s not filled with music, or politics, or family. If at some point Rage were to get it together to work more, I would be open to that, but that’s not on the table right now.”

In the meantime, Rage Against The Machine will release ‘Rage Against the Machine: XX,’ the special 20th anniversary edition of the band’s self-titled debut, through Sony Legacy on November 27. The album will be available in several different packages and includes several B-sides and rarities from the era.

‘Rage Against the Machine: XX’ can be pre-ordered here.
