Actor To Play Keith Richards In Jimi Hendrix Biopic Announced

It has been announced that little-known British actor Ashley Charles has been cast to play Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards in the upcoming Jimi Hendrix biopic, ‘All Is By My Side.’

Charles, who is the fourth actor to be named with a major role in the film, will join the likes of Imogen Poots (Fright Night) and Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger), as well as rapper/producer and star of the film Andre 3000, who is playing Hendrix.

Atwell is rumored to be playing Richards’ former girlfriend, Linda Keith, who left him for Hendrix after witnessing the legendary guitarist perform in a New York night club. In his recent memoir titled ‘Life,’ Richards reflected on what was for him, a painful time. “She went to New York and took up further with Jimi Hendrix, who may have broken her heart, as she broke mine.”

Directed by John Ridley, ‘All Is By My Side’ is based on interviews with Hendrix that occurred in 1966 and 67; the period when Hendrix recorded his classic debut, ‘Are You Experienced.’ According to an official statement, the film: “captures the energy, the charisma, (and) the mind-boggling talent of a legend whose musical influence still resonates around the world today.”

Unfortunately, it appears unlikely that any of Hendrix’s original material will feature in ‘All Is By My Side,’ following a decision made by Experience Hendrix LLC not to endorse the film.

Janie Hendrix, CEO of Experience Hendrix LLC released a statement last month explaining the companies decision.“We have not ruled out a ‘biopic’ in the future, though producing partners would, out of necessity, have to involve the company from the inception of any such film project if it is to include original Jimi Hendrix music or compositions.” She said.

Filming for ‘All Is By My Side’ is currently taking place now in Dublin.
