Suicide Silence’s Mark Heylmun On His Signature LTD MKH-7

ESP TV recently caught up with Suicide Silence guitarist Mark Heylmun to talk about his signature LTD MKH-7 guitar. The video interview can be found below.

Heylmun attained that the MKH-7, which was built to his exact preferences was, for him, the perfect guitar: “It’s everything I want in a guitar…It’s just a killer guitar.”

He added that the LTD MKH-7’s design provided him with a smooth tone and the perfect amount of sustain: “It’s a real smooth sounding guitar and that’s what I like… the sustain will rule and the riffs will crush.”

As the title suggests, the LTD MKH-7 is a seven string guitar, making it ideally suited for down-tuned, aggressive playing. However, Heylmun contented that while low-tuning is preferable for many bands, including Suicide Silence; it is not a pre-requisite for writing heavy music: “You don’t have to tune low to be heavy. It’s not a necessity anymore, but for us, for what we’re doing, I think it gives the doomy and the sludgey feel of it.”

Meanwhile, Heylmun revealed yesterday (September 10) that Suicide Silence has signed a new record deal with Nuclear Blast Entertainment. His statement read as follows: “I and all of Suicide Silence are proud to announce that we have signed a worldwide deal with the one and only Nuclear Blast. It wasn’t a tough decision, Nuclear Blast has been a huge part of heavy metal for decades and we couldn’t be happier. This is a new beginning for us and we’re ready as all hell! Let Chapter 2 begin now!”
